The Right Room Temperature for Deeper Sleep
A practical guide to bedroom temperature, bedding breathability, and why most people sleep too warm.
Most sleep guidance says “keep the room cool” and stops there. Here is the useful version.
Start at 18–19°C / 65–67°F
That band works for most adults. It is not magic — it is simply where the body can shed heat without shivering.
Temperature is a system, not a number
Three things decide whether you actually sleep cool:
- The room.
- What you wear.
- What you lie on.
You can fix the first and still sleep hot if the third holds heat. A pillow that insulates your neck is the most common culprit, because the head and neck shed a lot of heat during the night.
Test one change at a time
Change the room by one degree, or the pillow, not both. Two weeks is enough to know whether a change helped.
